The Pittsburgh Promise

The Pittsburgh Promise is a scholarship program to help students graduating from Pittsburgh Public Schools to pursue further education after high school and to enhance the growth, stability and economic development of the Pittsburgh region. The Pittsburgh Promise fund was established at The Pittsburgh Foundation in December 2007 with a $100 million commitment from UPMC, including an initial $10 million to support the school district’s Class of ’08. The remaining $90 million is a challenge grant, intended to spur support and contributions from all sections of the community to raise an additional $135 million ($15 million a year over the next nine years). Families, individuals and organizations, together with foundations and corporations, are encouraged to support the fundraising campaign by pledging their support to the Promise.
